Are Care Home Properties Residential or Commercial?

There is often the question of whether a care home is a commercial or a residential property. Certainly, this is a grey zone. Generally, we find that the definition your care home sits in is perhaps easiest to work out if you’ve had to change the planning permission on the house for a specific purpose. 

The classic, and perhaps easiest one to explain, is children’s homes. Children’s homes are without a doubt definitely allowed inside a SSAS pension as a commercial property. This is because you have to change the planning permission on a residential property for it to qualify as a children’s home.
